Canada Post Honours Karen Kain
April 29, 2021

Canada Post has created a commemorative stamp in honour of Karen Kain’s illustrious career with The National Ballet of Canada. Released on International Dance Day, April 29, 2021, the stamp features a striking photograph of Karen as the black swan Odile in Swan Lake, a significant role and ballet from her career.

“I am deeply touched that Canada Post has chosen to honour Canadian ballet with stamps featuring myself and the renowned dancer and choreographer Fernand Nault. This country has a rich dance history and it is wonderful to see the art form celebrated this way.”
Artistic Director Karen Kain

Karen was promoted to Principal Dancer following her debut performance as Odette/Odile in Erik Bruhn’s Swan Lake at just 19 years old, one of the defining moments of her performing career. Now Karen has come full circle to stage a new production of Swan Lake for the National Ballet as the company’s longest-serving Artistic Director since Founder Celia Franca.
