From surfing and skateboarding to ballet, find out how Skylar Campbell found his way to the stage.

Skylar came to ballet later than most dancers. In fact, he spent most of his early days skateboarding, enjoying water sports and even drumming! Born in Laguna Beach, California, Skylar saw a dance gala at the age of 14 and fell in love with the artform. It was that moment he knew that dance was something he wanted to do professionally. He trained with Victor and Tatiana Kasatsky in Orange County, California and then moved to Toronto to join The National Ballet of Canada in 2009. He was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2018.

Skylar has danced such lead roles as the title role in Nijinsky and Pinocchio, Peter/The Nutcracker in The Nutcracker, Jack/The Knave of Hearts in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Hilarion in Giselle. He recently made his debut as Benvollio in Romeo and Juliet and as a lead role in Etudes as well as in the company premiere of Petite Mort.
