Our Priority Needs

Inspiring Our Best

Since 2006, Karen Kain has led The National Ballet of Canada with a determination to attract and showcase the best dance talent in the world and to share exceptional experiences with audiences at home and abroad.

Her goals are to ensure the highest standard of excellence in performance as well as to invest in significant new productions to advance the art of ballet. Today the National Ballet is a centre of excellence where talent, determination and a commitment to high standards are producing ballets of first rank.

"Dance is an integral part of the lives of Canadians who celebrate its power to inspire all of us with a unique combination of movement and music to express the human spirit." Karen Kain, Artistic Director

With stellar performances and a unique repertoire of new and legacy works, the National Ballet is invited to tour internationally. Through this showcase on the world stage, the company has the opportunity to share the excitement and momentum associated with the National Ballet with discerning audiences worldwide. As our reputation for innovation continues to develop, new partners are seeking to collaborate with the National Ballet, helping to reinforce our position as a leader in the ballet world.

Equally important is ensuring that ballet remains accessible to all Canadians, since we believe that dance is innate to us all . The National Ballet’s education and outreach programming seeks to enhance a cultural literacy for all communities and to advocate that dance, music, creativity, collaboration and self-expression are vital to a vibrant and modern society.
