Promoting Arts and Creativity
With the belief that arts education contributes positively to the emotional and intellectual development of children and young adults, The National Ballet of Canada is dedicated to sparking a passion for artistic expression in the lives of young people. This is important not only to develop a cultural literacy in the next generation of artists and audiences but also to encourage creativity, imagination, empathy, confidence and self-expression.
The National Ballet is uniquely positioned to encourage children and students to see dance as an art that uses movement, shape and rhythm to convey aspects of the human experience. Unique programmes like YOU dance (for students in grades four to six), Dance About (for kindergarten to grade six), Exploring Ballet Workshops and Share the Magic inspire children with the power and possibilities of dance for communication, physical well-being and a sense of belonging and involvement.
"Going to the ballet is such a joyful experience that I feel everyone should have access to it. It is so important for children to get out and do things that so clearly give them pleasure-- it's important for all of us, in fact." One Anonymous Lady
All of the National Ballet’s education and outreach programming seeks to promote the arts, increase accessibility and engage Canadians in an art form that celebrates a freedom that only dance can provide.
“Because our students would not get any exposure to dance otherwise and have not seen anything like this live, we appreciate how the National Ballet has tied its programming into the school curriculum, and how we can use dance to create greater comprehension and connections in other areas of learning.” -Teacher, St. Dominic Savio School, Toronto
