Exciting New Visions of Dance

Since its inception, The National Ballet of Canada has been committed to expanding its repertoire with international masterworks and original ballets. New works inspire and challenge both dancers and audiences and help advance the art form with innovative visions of dance. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Karen Kain, the National Ballet is emerging as a world leader in the creation of new productions and as a first-choice destination for creative partnerships.

As the country's largest ballet company, the National Ballet dedicates its resources to fulfill its creative potential: a large company of dancers, a live orchestra, an elite production team, a performance space large enough to accommodate a sophisticated set design and a production facility that is virtually without compare.

"The National Ballet has been making bold investments in new productions and the results are paying off: raising the company's profile, extending its reach, and putting Canada on the world stage. We are proud of the accomplishments of new productions reaching the stage and garnering international demand to see them as well." Vanessa Morgan, President, The Catherine and Maxwell Meighen Foundation

In recent years, the National Ballet has produced some of the best new ballets in the international repertoire, including grand-scale works such as Alexei Ratmansky's Romeo and Juliet and Christopher Wheeldon's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and The Winter's Tale. The National Ballet invests in Canadian talent, providing opportunities for and showcasing homegrown choreographers like Guillaume Côté, Robert Binet, Crystal Pite and Aszure Barton, who have all debuted works to rave reviews.

"I grew up wanting to be a part of this National Ballet and I'm honoured to be asked to contribute. I'm grateful for the company's commitment to my development and for the opportunity this allows for me to take creative risks, which is extremely valuable as an artist." - Robert Binet, Choreographic Associate
