Performing on an International Stage

Spurred by a historic period of artistic growth, The National Ballet of Canada is returning to the world stage as one of the most innovative and skillful ballet companies at work today. Our talented dancers and a unique repertoire of first-rate productions have quickly established the National Ballet as a company to be seen.

Touring is an essential part of Karen Kain's vision - to enhance the company's visibility and reputation for excellence and to attract leading dancers and choreographers to collaborate on future projects. For our dancers, opportunities to appear on world stages provide more experiences to develop their artistry and greater exposure to new audiences and influential critics.

"There is a tremendous desire to see the National Ballet perform on the world stage. Our tours remind audiences why the National Ballet has an international reputation as one of the premier companies in the world." Sandra Faire, Member, Board of Directors

The National Ballet is one of the only arts organizations in Canada with the opportunity to undertake large-scale international touring. As such, the company serves as a major cultural ambassador for Canada, building this country's reputation for artistic excellence, innovation and cultural philanthropy in some of the most distinguished cities in the world.

In recent years, the National Ballet has performed in leading dance centres: the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City, The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Los Angeles Music Center, Sadler's Wells Theatre in London, England and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, France. Over the next five years, the National Ballet looks to tour to key destinations worldwide with some of the best new and legacy productions in the repertoire.

"It is because of Karen Kain's bold programming and commissioning of cutting-edge choreographers that we are once again being invited to international stages." - Rex Harrington, Artist-in-Residence
