10 Things Donors Supported in 2017:
1 Tour to Paris
In October, the National Ballet performed Nijinsky, a Ballet by John Neumeier, for a total of 4,222 people in Paris, the company’s first appearance there in 45 years. The performances of Nijinsky in Toronto in November were enjoyed by 11,709 audience members.
3 Performances in London
In London, 2,367 people attended three performances of The Dreamers Ever Leave You, an immersive work by Robert Binet, at Printworks, Canada Water.
310 Hours of Rehearsal
The dancers rehearsed for a total of 310 hours to prepare The Winter’s Tale by Christopher Wheeldon, seen in November by 14,308 people.
5 Million Viewers
Five million viewers tuned in to the World Ballet Day Live broadcast on October 5 for behind-the-scenes access to Australian Ballet, The Bolshoi Ballet, The Royal Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada and San Francisco Ballet.
5 YOU dance Performances
YOU dance began its season with five performances for 1,050 students in grades four to six, including one performance for 260 guests with special needs.
68 Dancer Health Screening Tests
Part of the Dancer Wellness Programme, the entire company of dancers was invited to participate in a day long process for benchmark testing on strength, power, endurance and flexibility, as well as general health.
1,600 Share the Magic Attendees
The National Ballet invited 1,600 children and families in need to share the magic and beauty of ballet with a free presentation of The Nutcracker.
50 Organizations at Dance Mosaic
To celebrate Canada 150, 1,900 people from 50 dance organizations attended Dance Mosaic, a celebration of cultural dance in Canada representing 39 different countries.
44,750 Enjoy The Nutcracker
44,750 people attended The Nutcracker by James Kudelka, a favourite holiday tradition for many families.
An essential part of the live ballet experience, The National Ballet Orchestra performed a total of 42 performances of The Winter’s Tale, Nijinsky and The Nutcracker.
