Lighting Designer David Finn’s previous work for The National Ballet of Canada includes The Four Seasons, Firebird and Terra Firma, all by James Kudelka, and Being and Nothingness by Guillaume Côté. Dance work includes lighting for The Nutcracker and Cinderella (Birmingham Royal Ballet), Roméo et Juliette for Sasha Waltz (Paris Opéra Ballet, Teatro alla Scala and Deutches Oper Berlin) and Swan Lake (Bayerisches Staatsballett). He has designed lighting for such renowned choreographers as Paul Taylor, Twyla Tharp, Merce Cunningham, José Limón, Helgi Tomasson, Liam Scarlett, Ashley Page and Dana Reitz, as well as for leading international companies. Mr. Finn was the Resident Lighting Designer for Mikhail Baryshnikov’s White Oak Dance Project from 1993 to 2000.
Mr. Finn designed the lighting for the Canadian Opera Company’s Ring Cycle, as well as MacBeth and Venus and Adonis. His other opera work includes projects for the Metropolitan Opera, The Royal Opera, Paris Opéra, Teatro alla Scala, Salzburg Festival, Lyric Opera of Chicago, New York City Opera, Berlin Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, La Monnaie (Brussels), Dutch National Opera, Opéra de Lyon, Opera Communale (Florence), Het Muziektheater (Amsterdam), Oper Stuttgart, Opera Australia, Santa Fe Opera and San Francisco Opera.
Mr. Finn’s film work includes stage lighting for Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence and his architectural work includes The Kramlich Residence with Herzog & de Meuron. Mr. Finn has designed two shows for Cirque du Soleil: Zed in Tokyo and Michael Jackson ONE in Las Vegas.
