Joe Chapman was born in Hobart, Australia and trained at The McDonald College of Performing Arts in Sydney, Australia and graduated from The Australian Ballet School where he was taught by Tristan Message and Dale Baker. Mr. Chapman danced with The Australian Ballet as a Coryphée before he joined The National Ballet of Canada as a Second Soloist in 2018.
Recently, Mr. Chapman made his National Ballet debut as Bottom in The Dream. His repertoire also includes Anna Karenina and Being and Nothingness. His repertoire with The Australian Ballet includes Franz in Coppélia, Camille in The Merry Widow, Prince in The Nutcracker, Acteon in Diana and Acteon and soloist roles in Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadère, Symphonic Variations, The Dream, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Nijinsky, Symphony in C, Ballet Imperial, Symphony in 3, Imaginary Masque, Constant Variants Petit Mort, Forgotten Land, In the Upper Room and Suite en Blanc. Mr Chapman’s repertoire also includes Cinderella, Romeo and Juliet, Onegin, Alice Topp’s Aurum and Mason Lovegrove’s Fraying.
In 2011 Mr Chapman was awarded the graduating year scholarship at The Australian Ballet School.
