Aya Okumura was born in Tokyo, Japan and trained at Rumiko Yamaji Ballet School in Japan and John Cranko Schule in Germany. She joined Het Nationale Ballet as an Apprentice in 2009 and was promoted to Soloist in 2017.
Ms. Okumura’s repertoire includes Princess Florine, Fairy of Song Bird and Fairy of Temperament in The Sleeping Beauty, Pas de trios and Cygnets in Swan Lake, Pas de quatre in Giselle, first solo Shades in La Bayadère, Cupid and Piccilia in Don Quixote and the female lead in Piano Concerto #1. She has also danced featured roles in The Nutcracker, Cinderella, Tarantella, Symphony in Three Movements, Stravinsky Violin Concerto, Jewels, The Second Detail, Chroma, Chamber Symphony and has performed in works by John Neumeier, Christopher Wheeldon, Jerome Robbins, Hans van Manen, David Dawson, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Shen Wei and others.
