Macfarlane’s stunning visual evocation of a coastal East Anglia landscape for Forgotten Land received inspiration from Norwegian expressionist Edvard Munch's painting, “Dance on the Beach”. The painting also influenced Macfarlane’s costume designs, which were simple and functional.
