Alexandra MacDonald was born in Calgary, Alberta and trained at the International School of Ballet in Calgary, Alberta and Boston Ballet’s Trainee Program in Massachusetts. She joined The National Ballet of Canada as an RBC Apprentice in 2007 and was promoted to First Soloist in 2016.
Alexandra has danced such roles as Princess Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty, the Snow Queen in The Nutcracker, Titania in The Dream, Myrtha, Queen of the Wilis in Giselle, Russian Dance Soloist in Swan Lake, Mother/The Queen of Hearts in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Choleric in The Four Temperaments and La Vaniteuse in Le Petit Prince. She has also danced roles in Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, Onegin, Nijinsky, Don Quixote, La Fille mal gardée, Frame by Frame, Hamlet, The Seagull, Pinocchio, The Concert, Symphony in C, Elite Syncopations, Suite en Blanc, The Leaves are Fading, Opus 19/The Dreamer, Theme and Variations, The Four Seasons, West Side Story Suite, Glass Pieces, Carousel (A Dance), Emergence, Angels’ Atlas, Silent Screen, Emma Bovary, Cacti, Morpheus’ Dream, islands, King’s Fall and The Dreamers Ever Leave You.
In 2018, Alexandra was the recipient of the David Tory Award and in 2010, she received the Patron Award of Merit. She was a finalist in the Youth America Grand Prix and competed in the Prix de Lausanne in 2007. In 2006, Alexandra received the Royal Academy of Dance Solo Seal Award and was a finalist in the Genée International Ballet Competition.
