Michael Gianfrancesco’s set and costume designs for theatre, musical theatre, opera and dance have been seen across Canada, Europe and the US. He has designed in repertory with the Stratford Festival and Shaw Festival. He has created sets and costumes for productions at the Canadian Opera Company, Rossini Festival Italy, Ex Machina, Signature Theatre, the National Arts Centre, Mirvish Productions, Opera Atelier, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Canadian Stage, Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, The Citadel Theatre, Centaur Theatre, Théâtre du Nouveau Monde, Theatre Calgary, Grand Theatre, Charlottetown Festival, The Musical Stage Company, Tarragon Theatre, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Segal Centre for Performing Arts, Studio 180 Theatre, Against the Grain Theatre, Young People’s Theatre and Queen of Puddings Music Theatre. Michael is the recipient of a Dora Mavor Moore Award and the Virginia and Myrtle Cooper Award in costume design from the Ontario Arts Foundation. His work has been featured at the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space.
