Yseult Lendvai

Yseult Lendvai was born in Lays-Les-Roses, France. She received her dance training at the Ecole Supérieure de Danse in Quebec. In 1985, she joined Les Grands Ballets Canadiens as an apprentice. One year later she joined Ballet BC under the direction of Reid Anderson. In 1989, she moved with Reid to The National Ballet of Canada, where she was promoted to Soloist. In Canada, Yseult made a name for herself especially with her profound and touching interpretations of the leading roles in the ballets of John Cranko. As a Soloist with a wide range of expressive abilities, she also danced in works by Kenneth MacMillan, Frederick Ashton, William Forsythe, Jerome Robbins, Jiří Kilián, John Neumeier and Glen Tetley.

 

From 1996 to 2004, she was a Principal Dancer with Stuttgart Ballet, where she danced lead roles in many of John Cranko’s ballets including Tatjana in Onegin, Katherine in The Taming of the Shrew, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, the Lady in The Lady and the Fool, M in Initials R.B.M.E. and the female lead in Poème de l’extase, Marguerite Gautier in John Neumeier’s Lady of the Camellias, the Princess in Uwe Scholz’s The Firebird and Columbine in Glen Tetley’s Pierrot Lunaire. In addition, she danced leading roles in works by, among others, Christian Spuck, Kevin O'Day, Jean Christophe Maillot, Dominique Dumais, Marguerite Donlon, Jean Grand-Maitre, John Alleyne and Douglas Lee, many of whom created roles for her. With Stuttgart Ballet she toured the US, Japan, Hong Kong and Europe.

 

As a guest artist, Yseult danced Tatjana in Onegin with The Royal Ballet and Teatro alla Scala, Juliet in Cranko's Romeo and Juliet with the Vienna State Ballet and the Ballet of Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Katherine in The Taming of the Shrew with the Semperoper Ballett in Dresden, as well as Tatiana, Juliet and Katherine with the Teatro Dell’Opera di Roma. Vladimir Malakhov invited her to the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin to dance the role of the Queen Mother in Patrice Bart's Swan Lake.

 

From 2007 to 2012, Yseult was engaged as Ballet Mistress for the Staatstheater Augsburg Ballett. From 2012 to 2015, she also held the position of Deputy Artistic Director. From 2016 to 2023, she was Ballet Mistress of Stuttgart Ballet where she passed on her many years of experience, particularly in the ballets of John Cranko, to the next generation.
