Nio Hirano was born in Tokyo, Japan and trained at Pacific Dance Centre, Victoria, British Columbia, Ellison Ballet Professional Training Programme in New York City, New York and European School of Ballet in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She joined The National Ballet of Canada as a Corps de Ballet member in 2023.
Most recently, Nio danced the Russian Dance in Swan Lake and Peasant Pas De Six in Giselle. Her repertoire includes The Nutcracker, Onegin, Don Quixote, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Anna Karenina, Jewels, Suite en Blanc, The Leaves Are Fading, Rhapsody and Passion. Her repertoire with other companies includes Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker by Liudmila Polonskaya after Marius Petipa, and roles in Septime Webre’s The Nutcracker, Cynthia Harvey’s The Sleeping Beauty, Kingdom of the Shades from Rudolf Nureyev’s La Bayadère and Raymonda.
In 2024, Nio was awarded the Patron Award of Merit.
