Our Commitment
At The National Ballet of Canada, we strongly believe that embracing diversity and pluralism brings value and strength to our company, art form and community. We also recognize that Canada is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world, and as a major arts institution, we need to better reflect that diversity throughout our organization, amongst our partners and within our audiences.
We acknowledge the historic inequities of our art form, including the systemic exclusion of racialized dancers and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, among others, and seek continued partnership with our community and peer institutions around the world to remove real and perceived barriers to accessibility and inclusion that exist.
The National Ballet is committed to creating a more diverse and equitable workplace, to advancing the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion within our field, and to promoting diversity and pluralism as an integral part of Canada’s culture. We pledge to approach this work with authenticity, transparency and respect.
We celebrate the many voices amongst our artists, staff, volunteers, partners, audiences and in the community based on lived experiences that incorporate diverse cultural and racial backgrounds, citizenship, creed, sex, gender identity and gender expression, sexual orientation, age, marital and family status, and ability and disability.
Our highest aim is to be an artistic organization that is relevant, accessible and welcoming to everyone.
