Overview
Creative Action shares The National Ballet of Canada’s resources with the Canadian dance community and develops Canadian choreographic talent. Created by Artistic Director Emerita Karen Kain and Robert Binet, former Director of Artist Development Programmes, Creative Action has three core activities.
Creative Action is generously supported by The H. John McDonald Foundation, Lucille Joseph & Urban Joseph, O.C., and an Anonymous donor.

We look forward to welcoming you into our studios.
Choreographic Workshop
The Choreographic Workshop is a platform that provides National Ballet dancers and independent choreographers the opportunity to create works in collaboration with the company’s artists, music and production staff, within the National Ballet’s facilities.
Micro-Commissions
Each season, the National Ballet will commission choreographers to create three new small scale, flexible and innovative dance works that can be presented in a wide variety of contexts.
Citadel Dance Exchange
A joint initiative from Citadel + Compagnie and The National Ballet of Canada’s Creative Action programme, Citadel Dance Exchange supports the development of new works by Toronto-based artists culminating in a presentation at The Citadel: Ross Centre for Dance in Spring.
