Charlotte Geeves Appointed New Executive Director of The National Ballet of Canada

July 9, 2025… Rags Davloor, Board Chair of The National Ballet of Canada, announced today that following a year-long international search, Charlotte Geeves has been appointed Executive Director effective September 2025.

“On behalf of everyone at The National Ballet of Canada, I am absolutely delighted to welcome Charlotte to both the company and to Canada. A distinguished leader known for her strategic insight, unwavering passion and deep dedication to the arts, Charlotte brings a wealth of senior leadership experience across a range of cultural institutions. Her exceptional understanding of organizational operations and financial stewardship makes her an ideal partner for Hope Muir, Joan and Jerry Lozinski Artistic Director. Together they will guide the company into an inspiring and dynamic future,” said Davloor.

“I am truly excited to partner with Charlotte as we build on the remarkable achievements of The National Ballet of Canada. Her proven ability to lead organizations with ambition and care, her openness to innovation and transparent, empathetic leadership style will be tremendous assets to the company. I feel deeply fortunate to have her as my co-CEO,” said Muir.

Geeves has led Bristol Old Vic in the UK as Executive Director and Joint CEO for the past six years. During her tenure, she successfully championed the cultural strength of Bristol in the region and UK arts sector, steering the organization through the pandemic and a change of artistic leadership while maintaining Bristol Old Vic’s commitment to creativity and producing new work in a challenging financial climate. Geeves spearheaded Bristol Old Vic’s environmental transformation, including the UK arts sector carbon literary training, and worked alongside Representation Matters on the development of EDI training and policy implementation for the company.

“It’s a huge honour to be appointed Executive Director of The National Ballet of Canada. I have had a passion for dance since I was young which has only deepened throughout my career, particularly at London's Sadler’s Wells Theatre. I believe that dance has a transformative power – one that transcends language, culture and barriers with the unique ability to bring people together for a truly shared experience,” said Geeves. “It's an extraordinary privilege to join the organization and, with Hope, to be leading the company through its next stage of ambitious development. I am truly thrilled and look forward to joining the team in the autumn.”

Geeves has a demonstrated history of working in the arts and commercial entertainment sector, with a unique ability to strike a balance between artistic, educational and commercial imperatives. Prior to the Bristol Old Vic, Geeves was the Chief Executive of Henley Festival where her transformational leadership resulted in a 40% increase in audiences and 30% increase in sponsorship and individual giving. She also held the positions of Festivals Manager for Wildscreen Film & TV Festival in the UK as well as Projects Manager and Interim Director of Programming at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London.

The Board of Directors of The National Ballet of Canada extends its heartfelt appreciation to Chief Financial Officer Amanda Ram, who has served with distinction as Interim Executive Director since the departure of former Executive Director Barry Hughson on July 1, 2024. Over the past year, in close partnership with Artistic Director Hope Muir, Ram has skillfully led the company through a period marked by both challenges and exceptional achievements – culminating in one of the most successful seasons in the company’s history. Ram will return to her role as CFO following the leadership transition.
