FIFA World Cup in Toronto in June
This June, FIFA World Cup comes to Toronto! Our wonderful city will welcome soccer fans from around the world. Increased activity in the downtown core is anticipated and you may experience longer travel times to the theatre with games taking place at Toronto Stadium/BMO Field near Exhibition Place and with FIFA Fan Festival™ Toronto at Fort York and The Bentway during the tournament.
Additionally, the South by Southeast International Festival is also taking place June 17 – 20 and they are broadcasting select games at Nathan Phillips Square, which could result in significantly higher activity in the area.

If you are attending a performance of MADDADDAM on June 17 or 20, The National Ballet of Canada strongly recommends that you take transit to the theatre and allow extra time for travel.
Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts is located at Queen Street and University Avenue and can be accessed directly from Osgoode Subway Station on Line 1.
Key Transit Service/Route Changes
- Will run as normal, with enhanced and expanded service on match days
Streetcar
- 509 Harbourfront and 511 Bathurst Streetcars: main boarding/alighting point shifts to Fleet Street
- Exhibition Loop: reserved for passengers needing accessible ramp deployment
- Fleet Street: closed to vehicle and cycling traffic for the tournament to create temporary streetcar platforms and queue streetcars
- 509 from Union: expected to face significant crowding; spectators will be encouraged to use Lakeshore West GO, a 7-minute trip, or walk, about 40 minutes
- RapidTO lanes: Dufferin and Bathurst Streets are expected to have priority transit lanes by tournament time
GO Transit
- Lakeshore West: will run 4 trains per hour at some non-match times and up to 6 trains per hour before and after matches, with crowd controls at Exhibition GO. More information.
Road Closures
Additional demand and match-day corridor closures will see increased road usage.
Major Restrictions
- Strachan Ave: full match-day closure for up to 10 hours, from 5 hours before kick-off to 3 hours after final whistle, Lake Shore Blvd to East Liberty Street
- Dufferin Street: full match-day closure from Springhurst Avenue to Saskatchewan Road for up to 10 hours, with local-traffic-only controls north to King Street
- Lake Shore Boulevard West: full match-day closure for up to 10 hours, Bathurst Street to British Columbia Road; this may push east-west traffic to the Gardiner and King Street
- Fleet Street: full closure from Angelique Street to Strachan Avenue for the duration of the tournament
- Fort York Boulevard and Nearby Residential Streets: local-traffic-only for the tournament
- Liberty Village: local traffic only on match days for up to 10 hours
