David Dawson
Peter Gregson
The Beginning of Forever follows the huge success of both Anima Animus and The Four Seasons as David Dawson’s first commission for The National Ballet of Canada in his role as Resident Choreographer. A trilogy of works that form a sweeping arc, The Beginning of Forever explores the emotional forces that shape us – life, love and ascension – through a prism of movement, memory and meditation. Beginning with “The Journey” and progressing through “The Promise” and “The Truth,” the work traces the human experience from the intensity of the creative act to a realm of memory and longing through the form of neo-classical ballet technique. The Beginning of Forever features an original score by award-winning composer Peter Gregson.
Lead philanthropic support for The Beginning of Forever is generously provided by an Anonymous Presenting Donor.
Appointed by Hope Muir in 2025, David Dawson is only the fifth Resident Choreographer in the history of the company. Grant Strate was the first to hold the post, appointed by Celia Franca in 1964, followed by Constantin Patsalas in 1982, John Alleyne in 1990 and James Kudelka in 1992, who later became Artistic Director in 1996.
