Legacy Giving

A legacy gift is a future, tax-deductible gift made through your estate plans to a charitable organization, such as a gift in your Will to the National Ballet.

You can also become a legacy giving donor by naming the National Ballet as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy, Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA), Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), or Registered Retirement Income Fund (RRIF).

A legacy gift allows you to have a lasting impact on the National Ballet, at no cost today and without changing your current financial plans. Gifts in your Will can reduce or even eliminate final income tax that would otherwise limit what you can leave to your loved ones.

Your future gift, no matter the amount, makes it possible for the National Ballet to create new works, support our dancers, fund national and international tours, support our celebrated orchestra and engage thousands of children and youth annually through educational programming and community initiatives.

Your legacy gift can be directed to The National Ballet of Canada or to the Endowment Foundation. Both provide crucial support to the National Ballet and mainly differ in terms of when the impact of your legacy gift will be felt. 

If you’d like your legacy gift to endure, please consider directing your gift to The National Ballet of Canada, Endowment Foundation. Your legacy gift will be protected in perpetuity, while annual investment gains from your gift will be disbursed to the National Ballet, year after year.

If you already have a Will and would like to leave a gift to the National Ballet, please ask your lawyer to add a codicil – this is an addition that modifies part of your Will (so you don’t need to create a new Will). Your codicil will outline that you’d like to leave a legacy gift to The National Ballet of Canada or The National Ballet of Canada, Endowment Foundation.

Alternatively, if you already have a Will, you can name the National Ballet as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy, Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA), Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) or Registered Retirement Income Fund (RRIF). This approach allows you to make a meaningful legacy gift without updating your Will. 

Designating a beneficiary through these giving vehicles is a low-cost, high-impact option that is quick and easy to arrange, often completed with a simple form through your insurer or financial institution. These gifts typically bypass probate, may offer tax advantages to your estate and can be updated at any time, providing flexibility while ensuring your passion for dance lives on.
