Legacy Giving

• There’s no immediate cost to you, so you don’t have to worry that your gift will reduce what you have to live on.
• Gifts made in your Will can reduce or even eliminate final income tax that would otherwise reduce what you leave to your loved ones.

A specific gift designates a fixed amount of money or financial securities to be given to the National Ballet.

A residual gift designates a percentage of the value of your estate (less your debts), to be given to the National Ballet.

If you’re not certain of the size of your estate, residual legacy gifts are a wonderful way for you to ensure that you can support your loved ones and causes that you care about the most.

Legacy gifts to the company can either be directed to The National Ballet of Canada or to the Endowment Foundation.

To provide the company with direct assistance to meet its current priorities, please consider directing your legacy gift to The National Ballet of Canada. You can further direct your legacy gift to a specific purpose within the company, such as The National Ballet Orchestra or the Dancer Health and Wellness Programme.

More frequently, many legacy donors designate their gift to the National Ballet with the flexibility to determine how a gift can best be used to support the company’s mission at the time that it’s received.

If you’d like your legacy gift to endure, please consider directing your gift to The National Ballet of Canada, Endowment Foundation. Your legacy gift will be protected in perpetuity, while annual investment gains from your gift will be disbursed to the National Ballet.

You may direct the disbursement from your legacy gift to specific long-term purposes (through the creation of a named fund) or to the Foundation with flexibility to determine how your gift can best support the National Ballet from year to year.

If you already have a Will and would like to leave a gift to the National Ballet, please ask your lawyer to add a codicil – this is an addition that modifies part of your Will (so you don’t need to create a new Will).

Your codicil will outline that you’d like to leave a legacy gift to The National Ballet of Canada or The National Ballet of Canada, Endowment Foundation.
