Sara Sylvia Holton Award
Sara Sylvia Holton (August 24, 2001 – September 23, 2018), whose life was most fulfilled by the joy of dance and the beauty of nature, was unwavering in her dedication to become a dancer through pre-professional training at Quinte Ballet School of Canada and enrichment classes at The National Ballet of Canada.
The National Ballet is deeply grateful to Sara’s parents Kristin Morrison and Gordon Holton for establishing The Sara Sylvia Holton Fund within The National Ballet of Canada, Endowment Foundation.
Sara’s fund upholds her legacy by inspiring the next generation of dancers through ballet education initiatives that Sara herself had enjoyed attending, including the National Ballet’s In Studio Summer Dance Intensive.
This year marks the inaugural presentation of The Sara Sylvia Holton Award at the In Studio Summer Dance Intensive. This award honours Sara, whose passion for ballet and her generous spirit continues to inspire our community.
The award recognizes two dancers who demonstrate not only dedication and promise in their craft, but also kindness, encouragement and compassion toward their fellow dancers each day. Kate Kernaghan, the National Ballet’s In Studio Director, will present the award at the In Studio Summer Dance Intensive showcase in July 2026.
