Celebrating Women in the Arts
March 8, 2021
In 2020, BMO presented Karen Kain with its inaugural Celebrating Women in the Arts Award. Just prior to the pandemic, Nada Ristich, Head of Community Giving for BMO, sat down with Karen Kain to discuss her 50-year career in dance, including her leadership of The National Ballet of Canada.
In honour of International Women’s Day, the National Ballet is proud to share Karen’s insights on making bold choices, providing opportunities to today’s artists and the impact of two strong women who influenced her: Celia Franca, founder of The National Ballet of Canada, and Betty Oliphant, co-founder and founding principal of Canada’s National Ballet School.
The National Ballet is grateful to BMO for seven decades of partnership and support. This year, as season sponsor, BMO’s generosity is helping the National Ballet stay connected with audiences, students and our community.
