For the 1995 production of Romeo and Juliet, Benson wanted her costumes to highlight the two young lovers’ purity and simplicity. What carried through was Benson’s remarkable colour sense, favouring high contrasts and combinations to subtlety indicate the movement of the drama and the relationship between the characters.
