Get Moving

The National Ballet of Canada hosts workshops for thousands of students every year in schools through our many community engagement programmes. The National Ballet also works very closely with community groups such as the Geneva Centre for Autism.

Designed for people of all abilities, these videos integrate a sequence of movements that engage the mind and body, prompt imagination and encourage freedom of movement.

Now you can follow along with us at home!

Intro to Ballet

Follow along with these videos led by National Ballet Artist Educator Annemarie Cabri, accompanied by National Ballet pianist Zhenya Vitort.

Inspired by musical excerpts from the ballet Swan Lake, this warm up will get you moving, dancing and energized while at home. You can imagine you are a big swan or a little swan during this warm up. Enjoy!

Learn about when ballet began and learn the positions of the feet, legs and arms in ballet. Enjoy dancing along to musical excerpts from the ballet The Sleeping Beauty!

Join and follow along to this movement exercise for all abilities. This exercise helps to wake up your mind, coordinate your body and makes learning easier. Enjoy moving to music from the ballet The Nutcracker!

Dancing with a prop can add something extra to your story telling in a ballet, plus it's fun! Follow this movement with any scarf or material from home to the music from the ballet The Sleeping Beauty.
